Sovereignty

Sovereign AI where your data stays in Switzerland.

Enterprise generative AI hosted in Switzerland, governed by Swiss law. No foreign cloud dependency. No CLOUD Act exposure. Sovereignty by design — not by policy PDF.

Why sovereignty is now a board-level question

Every serious AI workload eventually meets the same three-line question from a regulator, a client procurement team or an internal auditor: where is our data, who can access it, and under whose law?

For Swiss financial institutions, hospitals, law firms and federal teams, the only defensible answer is a Swiss operator on Swiss soil under Swiss law. Anything else has to be argued.

Uthereal is built so you don't have to argue. Sovereignty is the default — model hosting, embeddings, key management, logs, back-ups, and the entity you contract with.

Swiss soil only

Compute, storage, embeddings, logs and keys all reside in certified Swiss data centres.

Swiss law only

Operated by a Swiss entity under revFADP / nFADP. No foreign discovery regimes apply.

Swiss keys, always

Customer-managed keys and HSM options mean encryption stays in your control.

How sovereign deployment works

  1. Step 1
    Define the boundary

Pick fully Swiss, Swiss + EU, or hybrid with explicit data minimisation.

  2. Step 2
    Deploy in your jurisdiction

Provision a dedicated tenant in our Swiss region with your IdP and key management.

  3. Step 3
    Operate with evidence

Per-request traces, exportable audit logs and signed evidence packages for auditors.

Models — sovereign by default, flexible by choice

Open-weight in Switzerland

Llama, Mistral, Qwen and DeepSeek run fully inside the Swiss boundary — no data leaves, no third-party inference calls.

Routed proprietary models

Use GPT-class or Claude-class models under strict data minimisation, redaction and explicit per-use policy, when the workload requires it.

Who deploys Sovereign AI

  • Swiss banks and wealth managers under FINMA
  • Insurance and reinsurance carriers
  • Healthcare providers and pharma under FOPH
  • Federal and cantonal public sector
  • Law firms handling cross-border matters
  • Industrial and energy operators with critical IP

Frequently asked questions

Sovereign AI is enterprise AI hosted entirely on Swiss soil, governed by Swiss law and operated by a Swiss entity. Data, models, embeddings, logs and keys all stay within Swiss jurisdiction — outside the reach of foreign disclosure regimes such as the US CLOUD Act.

Generative AI moves sensitive information at scale: contracts, customer files, IP, policy. When that data sits in a foreign cloud it can be subject to foreign legal access even when encrypted at rest. Sovereignty gives regulated organisations a clean answer for boards, auditors and customers.

The revised Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection (revFADP / nFADP), in force since September 2023, plus sector rules — FINMA for banking and insurance, FOPH for healthcare. We also align with the EU AI Act for clients with EU operations.

Uthereal operates on certified Swiss data centres in multiple regions. Compute, storage and key management remain in Switzerland. EU and US regions are optional add-ons for international deployments.

Open-weight models (Llama, Mistral, Qwen, DeepSeek) run fully inside Swiss infrastructure. For US-based proprietary models we offer routed configurations with strict data minimisation, redaction and explicit per-use governance.

A Swiss region on a US-owned cloud still sits under the US CLOUD Act. Sovereign means Swiss operator, Swiss law, and — where required — Swiss-owned infrastructure. Uthereal ships that end-to-end, including the operator relationship.
